She is a self-proclaimed perfectionist (she previously shared 13 renovation tips). “It’s what draws me to remodels.” She is driven to improve the quality and function of the spaces she inhabits. A veteran of three remodels, Constance has learned the value of conserving resources and minimizing stress.
Constance just started her fourth renovation project, and she’s using 3D remodeling drawings to help her visualize the final project. As an experienced remodeler, Constance is always looking for ways to make her projects more fun, and more efficient. That means assembling the right team of home professionals, so while demolition has barely begun, here’s who’s on her team:
- A well-known architect who developed all the plans and construction documents.
- A designer whose work she’s seen and loved in several homes, and through her designer
- Constance found a 3D renderer who is taking the two dimensional construction plans and converting them to 3D remodeling drawings complete with surfaces, finishes and lighting.
3D Remodeling Drawings
The first room Constance shared was an image of the kitchen. The renderer input the specs from the construction drawings, then added the appropriate finishes and lighting to create photograph-like images of the finished kitchen. When Constance looked at the finished version, she decided to replace the solid panel at the end of the cabinets on the left with glass to provide even more visibility and natural light.

3D Remodeling Drawings to Select Finishes
After the kitchen, Constance asked for 3D remodeling drawings of the office. A wall was removed to consolidate the media room and a guest bedroom. The combined space will make for a generous office including built-in bookshelves, an oversized desk, a 50 inch television set and a luxurious chaise. In consideration of resale value, the room is designed so that a future owner could turn it into a bedroom by removing the desk and the lower cabinets under the window to make room for a California king bed.

The renderer offered four different iterations showing different paint colors on the walls and v-groove paneling at the back of the bookcases. Constance describes the first as “pleasantly masculine.” The remaining three drawings feature slightly different furniture and are all more feminine.

Cost of 3D Remodeling Drawings
It is not uncommon these days for architects and designers to offer 3D remodeling drawings as part of their services. Some will bundle it, others will offer it for a fee. Constance found her renderer through her designer. He charges $600 per render. He also offers “fly-bys”, an animated walk through of a space, for $2,500 – $3,000. Constance recommends asking your remodeling or construction professional if they offer this service and what if any additional costs you might incur.
Constance says 3D remodeling drawings have “helped tremendously before construction even began! It’s really helpful to be able to ‘see’ what a room will look like before it ever physically takes shape. Otherwise we’d probably be repainting the room five times.” While you might think the cost of the renderings is too high, when you consider the time and cost of reworking something already built or painted, that has to be redone, the cost makes absolute sense!
Have you used 3D remodeling drawings on your projects? Would you like to?
